Welcome to Edinburgh Kendo Club

Edinburgh Kendo Club (Edinburgh Kendokai) is a dedicated and friendly club in Edinburgh, Scotland. We are committed to the study, practice, and promotion of the Japanese fencing art of Kendo.

Although kendo in Scotland began back in the 1970’s Edinburgh had to wait until 1988 until a club was established by Romilly Squire. After Romilly’s tenure as leader, the club was run by Steve Bishop and Nairn Burns (mid 90s-2000), George McCall (2000-2003), Steve Bishop (2003-2016), before being passed on to Dez Whitson (2017). 2018 marks the 30th anniversary of the Edinburgh club.

The club practices twice a week plus there are many opportunities to visit affiliated clubs in and around the Edinburgh & Fife area. The club also hosts and attends a number of seminars and competitions throughout the year.

The club has friends & members from around the world of all ages and backgrounds and welcomes anyone who wishes to join. Please visit our VenueBeginners, Kids club & Members pages for more info.
